The Free Legal Assistance Group, or FLAG, is the largest existing NGO in the Philippines. Founded in 1974, it is the oldest nonprofit lawyers’ organization in the country with an emphasis on human and civil rights issues.

The primary objectives of the Free Legal Assistance Group are to:

  • Promote civil and political rights through activism
  • Handle cases of the workers, students, NPA members, indigenous peoples, urban poor, and other disenfranchised sectors of Philippine society

During martial law and the authoritarian regime that took a toll on the country from 1974 to 1986, nearly a cent percent of the human rights cases were handled by FLAG. This goes on to show how impactful the organization has been from the get-go to date.

FLAG is a law firm and non-government organization in the Philippines, driven by passionate lawyers and volunteers.
