iSimangaliso Wetland Park is on the east coast of KwaZulu-Natal, about 2 hours and 40 minutes drive from north of Durban. The Park is South Africa’s third-largest protected area. iSimangaliso Wetland Park is under the management of the iSimangaliso Authority.
iSimangaliso was in 1999 listed as South Africa’s first world heritage site in recognition of its rich biodiversity, unique ecosystems, and natural beauty.
iSimangaliso is home to a variety of biodiversity, including Cape buffalo, elephant, leopard, black and southern white rhino, and in the ocean, whales, dolphins, and marine turtles, including the leatherback and loggerhead turtles. In addition, the park houses over 1,200 crocodiles and 800 hippopotami.
