Malaysian Trade Union Congress, or MTUC, was formed when the workers in Malaysia saw the need for a central body that will evaluate, represent and communicate its interest.
It has been doing its best to evaluate the state of the trade unions in Malaysia, decipher the needs, and decide on what action to take about its situation at any moment.
MTUC also protects the rights of migrant workers and does its best to ensure that they settle comfortably in Malaysia.
It achieves this by running migrant resource centers where workers and members of their families are educated on their rights, given counseling, and legal assistance where necessary, and disputes are also resolved peacefully.
The Malaysian Trades Union Congress has put in efforts to improve the social and economic situation of workers in Malaysia by providing training for unemployed workers and providing facilities for this purpose.
In addition, it provides health standards in work environments, protects retirement benefits of workers, compensates workers in the event of them having a disability or disease, and helps in inter-union negotiations.
Malaysia employs a wide range of services of foreign workers from all around Asia and has found a way to cater to the rights and privileges of these workers through the establishment of MTUC.
